Towards a solution for craftsmen's problems
Ivorian craftsmen face a number of challenges in carrying out their activities.
Here are some of the major problems identified:
Lack of training infrastructure: The government is working on the Programme National de Développement et de Promotion de l'Artisanat (PNDPA), a program costing around 52 billion FCFA that includes the construction of 13 craft training centers in 13 regions of Côte d'Ivoire.
Space problems: Craftsmen recently encountered problems with the Abobo town council, which asked them to vacate the Abobo Anador space in Abidjan. A temporary 15-hectare site has been set up to accommodate Abidjan's artisans.
Promoting local products: Craftspeople compete with each other in their creativity to promote local products. However, getting Ivorians to promote their crafts themselves remains a challenge.
Industrial problems: Fraud, tax corruption and counterfeiting undermine Côte d'Ivoire's industrial sector.
Digitization: The transition to digital technology is another major challenge for the craft sector.
These problems require practical solutions if they are to be overcome and enable craftsmen to contribute effectively to the country's economic development.
